Some Jewish Food (and Company) for Thought

Northwestern sophomores Lexie Komisar and Shauna Perlman will host Schmooz n Shabbat with 18 Strangers on Friday night, an event they called “the Shabbat of the quarter.” The two sophomores chose 18 students from dozens of NU Jews. The sophomores also warned “no experience in the Hebrew alpabet is needed, just an open mind.” The dinner will be at 811 Simpson St. Apt. 1 in Evanston at 7:30 p.m. Unfortunately, this one requires an Evite in order to attend. Stay tuned for how the night goes and any awkward situations that may arise…

Dispelling a Myth, One Call at a Time

How many times have you heard this stereotype: Jews are cheap; Jews are stingy. At Northwestern, that may not be the case anymore. Hillel’s Phonathon has returned for the winter and pays participants nine dollars an hour. Not too shabby to call a fellow Jew and raise money for Jewish programming on campus.
Did I mention that you also get free snacks? Can’t get more Jewish than something to nosh on while you do your work.
Sign up to participate in the Phonathon from Tuesday, Feb. 27 to Thursday, March 1 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Fiedler Hillel Center.
It raised almost $58,000 in the fall in two weeks.
