The Chabad Student Board (of which I’m a member) has arranged for a shofar factory on college walk this afternoon. This is the first on-campus event since Chabad moved to its new, permanent home–a five-story brownstone on 113th and Broadway–this summer. Rabbi Yonah Blum made headlines in the Columbia Spectator on several occasions last year, most notably when he became an officially recognized university chaplain. The Chabad Student Board, which includes some 20 students and alumni, was launched during the Fall 2005 semester. According to Blum, the board is responsible for creating and implementing “student programming by students for the greater student population” at Columbia. Currently, the board is working towards gaining university recogintion as a student group.
