We’ve written about the controversy over Nonie Darwish being allowed to speak at Brown. Now, JTA reminds us that the lecture is finally coming up.
A controversial Muslim-raised woman will speak at Brown University next week about the culture of hatred in Islamic societies and the repression of women by Muslim radicals.
Nonie Darwish, author of the book “Now They Call Me Infidel,” was scheduled to speak at the Providence university last year, but her appearance was nixed after the local Hillel chapter rescinded the invitation amid complaints from campus Muslims.
Darwish’s rescheduled speech, now slated for Feb. 7, is co-sponsored by the university and Stand With Us, a pro-Israel group based in Los Angeles.
Darwish is the daughter of an Egyptian intelligence officer killed by Israeli soldiers.
She says she was indoctrinated from childhood to hate Israel but changed her views after her brother’s life was saved by Jewish doctors at Jerusalem’s Hadassah-University Hospital.
Raised in a Muslim home, Darwish converted to Christianity as an adult.
