The Bronfman Israel Experience Center, Birthright Israel and March of the Living are sponsoring a screening of Ushpizin next week. The film will be shown on October 11 at 7pm in at 5850 Marc Chagall in Cote-St-Luc, with a discussion following the screening.
The critically-aclaimed film is part of a Sukkot program, since the plot of the film takes place as Sukkot approaches. In 2004, Ushpizin won Best Actor from the Israeli Film Academy. The poster for the screening desribes it as “the first film made by members of the ultra-Orthodox community in collaboration with secular filmmakers and aimed at general audiences.”
The film’s official site loosely translates the film as “Holy Guest,” summarzing the movie as a humourous “look at the daily lives of ultra-Orthodox Jews learning, living, and loving modern-day Israel.”
